Nursery Manager for “Outstanding” Montessori Nursery in Bournemouth

We are recruiting a nursery manager for Kings Castle Montessori Nursery in Tuckton, Bournemouth.  Kings Castle is a thriving, vibrant nursery which has recently been awarded Ofsted “Outstanding”. The nursery is open year-round and takes up to 70 children per session aged between 3 months and five years.  The nursery currently holds a long waiting list and has a strong standing in the community.

Kings Castle closely follows the Montessori method of Education and a Montessori qualification and relevant experience are considered essential.  A level 3 Montessori certificate and Early Years experience at deputy level or above is also considered essential. Along with the day-to-day management of the nursery, the manager will also be responsible for the mentoring and support of the 25+ team of staff, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, policies and procedures and working in partnership with the Directors of the setting to ensure the effective running of the business.  The position is for a minimum of 35 hours per week over 4 or 5 days per week.  A full job description is available on request.

Day to day working:

  • Managing and coaching a team of 25+ Montessori and Early Years Practitioners
  • Delivering on the job training, guidance and support to the team
  • Building and maintaining excellent relationships with parents
  • Planning & logistics, running the nursery routine, managing sufficient ratios and rotas
  • Risk Assessing the nursery throughout the day, every day, and taking required action promptly.
  • Critically assessing all policies, procedures and practice to drive improvement
  • Holding monthly staff meetings, ensuring regular staff appraisals and supervisions.
  • Ensuring that Safeguarding children is held in the highest priority as one of two Designated Safeguarding Leads in the setting.
  • Implementing the EYFS and compliance with Ofsted and other statutory bodies, etc.
  • Working with the directors to ensure that the occupancy remains at the required levels, that the waiting lists are managed effectively and that the nursery is run efficiently and in line with budgets
  • Working with the Directors to ensure that the premises are maintained to a high standard
  • Working a flexible shift pattern within the opening hours (8am-6pm)

Essential skills and experience:

  • Must have worked previously within a nursery at a managerial level for a minimum of 1 year.
  • Hold a relevant childcare qualification – minimum Level 3 Montessori Certificate.
  • Strong knowledge of Ofsted requirements.
  • Experience of implementing the Statutory Framework for Early Years Foundation Stage.
  • Able to demonstrate ability to work on own initiative and prioritise workload.
  • Good planning, organisational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work full-time, minimum 35 although 40 hours would be preferred. A four-day week may be considered.
  • Eligible to obtain Enhanced DBS Reference and able to provide original copies of required qualifications.

Be a hands-on practitioner with key worker responsibilities; 

Take on the roles of SENDCO and Deputy DSL (SENDCO training and Level 3 Safeguarding would be an advantage);

Be involved in supporting the staff team through duties such as induction, supervision, training, recruitment and discipline;

Lead staff meetings & planning meetings;

Experienced Nursery Key Worker (NVQ3) required for immediate start.

NVQ3 or equivalent essential. Safeguarding level 3 preferred – if not, training will be given.

A Montessori background would be an advantage although not essential as training can be given in-house.

A DBS check will be required.

This is initially a term-time only position. However, from September 2018 the nursery will be opening all -year-round which will involve some work during the holiday periods, and could potentially lead to a year-round working contract.

The nursery is open 08.30 to 18.00 Monday to Friday. Initially the position is likely to be up to 4 working days per week, but we require a high degree of flexibility to increase or decrease hours as needed.

The hourly rate will be in the region of £9.00/hr dependent on qualifications and experience.

Candidates should be highly motivated with the ability to plan and lead activities for a group of key children. You will occasionally be required to act as Safeguarding Lead for the nursery in the absence of the Nursery Principal.

You should have excellent people and communication skills and the confidence to address parents appropriately.

Nursery bank staff required for immediate start, potentially leading to a permanent post for the right candidate.

An outstanding setting based in a lovely wooded environment in Rushcombe 1st School grounds, Hanham Road, Corfe Mullen, Wimborne, BH21 3PX. We are registered to accept 40 children from 2 - 5 years. Our opening hours are 8.30 – 6.00 Mon – Fri all year round.

A small, high quality setting based in a lovely natural environment in Hayeswood 1st School grounds, Cutlers Place, Colehill, Wimborne, BH21 2HN. We are registered to accept 25 children from 2 - 5 years. Our opening hours are 8.45 – 4.00 Mon – Fri term time only.

We are urgently seeking a highly flexible and versatile person to act as bank staff for both of our 2 nursery settings covering for staff training, holidays and sickness. Qualifications are not essential as in-house training will be given, but experience in a similar role or knowledge of child development would be an advantage. An enhanced hourly rate would be offered to practitioners with a relevant NVQ3 or above.

Excellent people and communication skills with the confidence to address parents when required are essential for this role. An Enhanced DBS check will also be required.

We may offer a permanent post to the right candidate should recent increases in the numbers of children registering to attend with us continue. We may also consider supporting a permanent recruitment through NVQ3 training should this be of interest.
